Overview

The Garrett GTX5020R GEN II Turbocharger represents a significant advancement in compressor wheel design and aerodynamics. Available in 76 mm, 80 mm, and 88 mm inducer diameters, the GEN II series delivers higher efficiency, faster spool, and increased power potential compared to the previous generation.


Compressor Wheel Design

The GEN II billet compressor wheel features a 120 mm exducer (an increase of 2 mm over GEN I) and offers:

  • 9% more airflow

  • 30% lower rotational inertia

  • 20% reduction in mass

By reducing material in the hub and blades, Garrett has improved transient response and boosted efficiency. The lower inertia enables the turbo to reach boost faster, while the improved aerodynamics provide either more power at the same boost or the same power at lower boost levels.


Compressor Housing

  • Larger 0.88 A/R compressor housing (up from 0.69 A/R in GEN I)

  • Shared design with the GTX5533R (85 mm & 88 mm)

  • Optimized volute for increased flow and power capacity

  • Extended compressor dimensions:

    • +6 mm longer at compressor outlet

    • +10 mm longer at compressor inlet

  • Outlet diameter: 107 mm (unchanged)

  • Not outline-interchangeable with GEN I


Aerodynamics and Features
